Did apocrypha kill your skill changing computer? Are u unable to start apocrypha on your computer at work due to it's graphics card not supporting SM 2.0?
Then you've come to the right place.
Visit http://www.transgaming.com/products/swiftshader/
Download the trial version.
Make backups of your D3D8.dll and D3D9.dll files located in your windows\system32 folder.
Extract the D3D8.dll and D3D9.dll files from the zip file you downloaded to the windows\system32 folder.
Start EVE: Apocrypha
Profit

nice find, lets hope the old laptop crowd have enough CPU to render at a decent FPS.

Edited by: blomer on 12/03/2009 17:35:35 It kinda works. I had to copy the files each time due to XP's SFC though for starters. But the biggest prob I had was that my mouse cursor wouldn't show up.
If you got any trick for that, I'm all ears.
Also, it is slow as molassas, so would only be usable for changing skills, not for playing. At least on my sys here, which is a P4 2.8ghz w/ 2GB of ram, so I doubt it would be any better for older PC users.

remember to make all your windows completely opaque, so the minimum amount of 3D rendering as actually performed.

Nice tip from the OP, I'll definitely try this out
As Milla mentioned, 3D Analyze may be a solution for those with slow CPUs (and obviously ****ty graphics cards), check out

Failed for me
After Apocrypha patch: My two yr old laptop - Toshiba Satelite A135-S4527 had issues with deadspace mission gates. I'd get a black screen flash 1-2 times and system hang or CTD. A quick Alt-tab on re-tries showed Vista saying Graphics Driver Failure. Elsewhere ingame I was fine including 40+ system jumps with freighter while EVE was so lagged they'd closed Amarr, Jita, etc.
After SwiftShader - EVE would not even load.
I don't recommend it but for others fighting to try this 'fix' you'll need to Own the files in System32 to replace or rename them.
To take ownership of a file using the command prompt:
Click - Start, All Programs, Accessories, Right-Click - Command Prompt,Click "Run as administrator". ... at prompted for User Account Control consent Click - Continue.
Enter: takeown /f C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3d8.dll And: takeown /f C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3d9.dll
Now nav. into X:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32, Open the properties for d3d8 and 9 Edit so your user-Admin has 'Full Control'
You should then be able to rename them like d3d8_bak.dll and try the ones from the SwiftShader Demo.
Luck and know your way back in SafeMode if bad things happen

3D Analyzer has helped me in the past, so yeah, going to try it again. Don't expect fancy graphics or performance, but it WILL work.

I used 3danalyze to play EVE back when I had my (then) awesome Kyro II. Didn't know it worked with DX9.

Buy a used laptop. A Lenovo T60 from 2007 will have an ATI x1300 or x1400 card in it. Both of these cards are Shader 3.0 compatible, good for a couple more years.
brand new versions of some of the netbooks will have the Intel GMA 950 integrated card, which is shader 3.0 compatible as well.
Either of these two choices will cost around $500.00 NOT super cheap, but deciding to game on a laptop is a guarantee of EXPENSIVE upgrade cycles. ---- Fix the Wardec System! |

Hi,
I have been not playing since the Apocrypha release, two months ago, even when my graphics card claims to have SM 2, and I tested it with some third part analyzer soft. Eventually I try to connect and play at some moments, but not to success... until yesterday, just before the new patch. Then I knew was able to play with my ATI Mobile Radeon 9700... but... Everything was fine until I jumped some stargate. Then the same problem again. A windows message about my driver not working properly and once a blue screen telling me my card was in an infinite loop (?).
As the problem was at this point only I had an idea, two batch files, one to copy the swiftshader dll into windows\system32 and the other to revert to the original libraries.
In that way if I need to move to another system I disconnect, then use the batch file to copy the SShader dll's, connect, jump, move away from stargate and then disconnect, revert the system and connect for play normally.
This is not for everybody, but if you are a miner like me, may be it can help you.

Step 1 If you have the money quit being cheap and buy new ****!!! Step 2 ???? Step 3 profit.
Also seems like some people here are proud of their old **** comps.... thats nothing to be proud of folks, vintage comps aren't like vintage cars or wine....
Now then if you can't afford a new comp I completely understand. _________________________
