Bottom of page 13: "If you can retain everything you read in this first section, you are already on your way to a brilliant career !"
Extra space before the punctuation.
"Before heading to the fourth section of this guide, there are skills you should have trained ."
Again extra space before the punctuation and there are no skills listed after it saying what should have been trained.

I appreciate your feedback but please edit your first post rather than adding a new one all the time :) It'll make it easier to sort through! Thanks :)
Also, the guide was proofread by 12 people overnight so many of the typos were corrected!
I plan to release sections 6, 7 and 9 this week-end. ★ LSJV now recruiting ★ |

No problem. didn't know if it would be easier if they were all in one post or in separate ones so you could find an addition easier :). Thanks for all your hard work on this tome.

I know what is wrong with the pictures, but don't know how to fix it.
I created my pictures in Photoshop, inserted them in the Word Document. However they are always oversized, and I scale them back to 75% in word so they are identical to what they look like in Photoshop at 100%.
When I create the PDF though, it resizes back the pictures to 100% and is responsible for the distortion.
Anyone that has the fix will get 100mil ISK :D

Originally by: Zaknussem To help you further with this, I did the grinding during Quantum Rise, around November or December.
I also remember seeing the Refining window showing me 0.0% in the "we take" column when I had 6.67, which was true as long as I was refining in small amounts. However, when I refined a evening's worth of mined ore, several hundred units of minerals were being taken as tax, which led me to conclude that the tax rate was at 0.01% or thereabouts at corp standing 6.67.
This is correct. 6.67+ is neccesary for 0% tax.

on page 15 you mention the NPC station equipment of 50%. There are some NPC stations that have a 30% yield.
On page 22 (4.2.1) you compare the retriever vs the Apoc and Rokh. The calculation here is confusing because the number of strip miners (2) and the difference in cycle time are not included. If you add a line that explains this your remark: "while the retriever provides a bit less yield." should be understandable.
page 65-66: "Note that the window will not tell you HOW MUCH is missing." This statement is incorrect. Since quantum rise it will tell you how much is missing.
page 78: "The PE attribute affects the SPEED of the production whereas the PE skill affects the wastage. Easily confused, easily explained." Indeed The seconde PE should be ME.

Yes, I saw that too. There are actually NPC stations with yields as low as 25%. Other possibilities are 40%, 35% and 32%.

Try this: In the resize image dialog in Photoshop, set the actual size you want the picture to appear, not pixels but cm (or inch, or whatever you use), then set a resolution. I recommend about 150 dpi if you want to be able to print the guide and still have the pictures look nice.

Small suggestion:
Loosen up on pussing people on the Caldari Spaceship command skill tree simply for the Bantam and the Osprey.
New players may see this guide as the only thing that guides them in a new environment where everything is uncertain. They will train Caldari because you tell them it's the best. This while once they reach mining barges or decide that mining is not for them, they will realise that the pittyfull extra 10% bonus on the Osprey wasn't really worth the skill points and they had rather used the time to train up another race to cruiser.

I did change the section. I do explain each race have their mining frigate, same for cruiser. I even mention the mining frigates by name, and that if they wish to go down another path race wise, all they have to do is change the racial skills I mention.
Players need to make their own decisions at some point, I don't think I'm being politically incorrect by suggesting a race. The SP trained into frigate and cruiser is about one week worth of training, not an enormous amount by any means, and it is difficult to argue there is a better ship than the raven for ratting, which further favors a caldari training path for industry oriented characters.
Then again I didn't want to spend 2 pages on the race, it's isn't the purpose of the guide! ★ LSJV now recruiting ★ |

First of all, congratulations on improving on what I'd think it was the best possible already!
I'd like to point out some few bits I found here and there, in case you decide to review the guide (some might be wrong, I am not a long time veteran):
Page 11:
Quote:
Some asteroids will be bigger and contain more ore than others. You can use a Survey Scanner on your ship to find out how much ore exactly is contained in an asteroid. In most cases, this module is rarely used, as after youÆve depleted an asteroid, you will simply switch to another one
I find this somewhat too much generalized. We do corp ops involving stripping multiple belts and we use the survey scanner to assign asteroids with mineral X to Hulk Y and similar. The guy still with mining barges / less skills will get mineral Z to do (easier to dig and lower quantity).
Quote:
1.2.1 What Should I Mine Then? This question comes up on the forums every week, and the answer always changes. ThatÆs because the mineral market always fluctuates, according to supply and demand. There are several tools to help you figure it out. The first one is Eve-central. It has an excellent market report on minerals, with statistics up to the last 180 days. Another fantastic tool is the Trade Hub Mineral Index which reports the average sell and buy prices of minerals across multiple hubs.
Expecially for new players I'd also suggest
http://www.evegeek.com/mineralindex.php
(I know you mention the site in the index, I'd mention it here as well). The pages under the "Refining" menu contain easy to understand and consolidated information. The prices also show the delta in pricing compared to the past months, so it's easy for a new player to check what is currently hot to dig.

Page 16, about can flippers.
Additional tips for *newbies*:
1) I want to stress it more: can flippers KNOW what they do, and for the most part they are not out there to really steal your newbie ore but to kill you.
They will flip your can in a mediocre ship so you are enticed at reacting or even going getting your hard earned T1 PvP frigate. You don't see how they have a navy fitted fully fledged PvP ship just out of reach and similar other "measures".
2) If you are really on yourself:
- Don't label your cans. A "cargo container" can be there for any reason. A can labelled: "John 05:30" really gives it out about you and when you put the can out and what can to go rob first.
- Create a dozen of cans, 11 containing 1 ore, 1 with the real stuff. The can flipper will take a longer time to get to the right one, giving your corporation time to retaliate.
- For heavily thieves / flippers affected systems: create an hauling alt. Even if you only got one account, you can create a Minmatar Slave Child good for PvP purposes and can get to "rank 1" industrial ships fast. Train a Wreathe, buy a Giant Secure Container and 2 cheap cargo expanders. Bring both your miner and that hauler / pilot in place, dig enough to fill the indy, log off the miner and log in the hauler and grab the can contents.
3) If you have found the high sec holy grail of mining: PvE missions with rare and MANY asteroids (i.e. a dozen Pyroxeres and a dozen of other big asteroids): don't be fooled by the 47k "early completion" ISK reward and think about the millions you can make by digging all that stuff. But of course you are NOT safe, you can easily be spotted / probed and thieves come rob millions in ores after you dug them for hours.
In this case try minimizing the odds. Knowing thieves are after:
- salvaging (probing for stealing wrecks is extremely common) - named cargo containers a la "John 10:40", the more in a single spot the higher the probability to find a miner there. - any container if they probed your wrecks and came to you already
You want to do this:
- Salvage everything BEFORE you start mining. This downright removes the big number of salvaging thieves that will later notice the mining cans and will want to grab them. - Don't get there with an indy / miner and perform the obvious "arrive at system => jump to mission entrance gate" as anyone with a clue will see your direction and will chase you. Instead jump to a random planet first (NOT a moon), then to the mission entrance. - Don't name cans and don't make more than one. Probing has a fairly long range and reading obvious mining cans will attract thieves. Seeing 3-4 named cans in an high sec system gives it out that you are mining a mission's asteroids.

4.2 The Barge Way Before we go any further, you must know that the Procurer sucks. The Osprey will outmine it, so the first barge you will go for will be the Retriever.
I'd like you'd point out somewhat bolder about how much is good to use a Retriever. Switching from dual MLU Osprey to 1 MLU Retriever with puny *T1* strip mining lasers made me go "Oooooh!". Suddenly filling a whole can was so easy and painless.
Page 50:
Quote:
You will also notice that Mercoxit is grayed out, as Mercoxit mining uses a different bonus system with its crystals and its equipment, therefore a direct comparison with units or m3 isníªt possible. How can we generally interpret that table ? At the time of the release of this guide, Omber is the best ore available in Empire Hedbergite is the best ore available in Low-sec Bistot and Arkonor are the best ores available in 0.0
I'd replace Omber with Veldspar, since the time of release of this last guide is not the same time of the older guide's ;P
