So, I was sitting around finding wormholes and I had found a few solid ones in a few different systems, but I didn't really haven anyone around at the time to help me exploit my findings before the wormholes would be gone. What to do, what to do?...
I start chatting up the locals and I offer to be a scout for a player, and then he gets one of his buddies to join in, and then another ten minutes go by and they bring a few corpmates. While all of this chatter is going on in local, it spurs some interest from yet another group of greedy carebears. Now we're looking at a fleet of fourteen ships, including myself. Nobody else has a probe launcher fit.
I keep going on and on about how my character is max skilled with probes and has a super cool maxed out Covert Ops and all sorts of fancy probing implants (which is all true) and pretty soon everyone is on board to go into w-space. So we all stack up at the wormhole and I go in first...
Ooooooo, w-space! Groovy! We hang out for a bit and shoot a few frigs and some cruisers and then I start looking around for another few wormholes. I find another one that leads into a second w-space system. And then it hits me- I'm a pirate, these are carebears, let's see what kind of ISK I can get out of them...
I find a wormhole, jump through it and then announce in fleet that I'm no longer in their local system and that I'll jump back in and give them a bookmark to k-space for the paltry sum of 1.5 BILLION ISK.
Hehe.
After a few minutes of them cussing me and telling me just how horrible a person I am and how much revenge they're going to exact on me, they end up kicking me from the fleet, blocking me and not paying the ransom.
I'm assuming that they all had full sets of implants and fully rigged ships with full T2 fits. Nobody took the time before hand to jumpclone into a clean clone, that's for sure.
Me being in a Covert Ops, I jumped back into their previous system and took a look around. I love not showing up in local. I flew back to some bookmarks I made and found a little pile of corpses on scan. Good times! As I recall there were only eight or so corpses, so I don't know if they all self destructed or not, or if some of the corpses disappeared or what, but I know for sure some of them did. The rest are probably trying to hold out for a rescue (fat chance haha).
To the noobs who cut their nose off to spite their face: I look forward to hearing from you, I have some Fed. Navy Antimatter L waiting with your collective names on it.
To everyone else: I hope you're having as much fun with w-space as I am! Cheers.

Wait, not ONE of them bothered to fit a core probe launcher besides you? Heck, it's not like you had a PVP fleet of buddies waiting for them and there was nothing they could feasibly do with their PVE fleet; This could have been prevented by one character with astrometrics II, a core probe launcher, and 3 core probes (preferably more). Oh well, their loss. |

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to come up with this kind of scam.
Enjoy it while you've got it, because I suspect it will be one of the first things that will be subjected to a nerfbatting by CCP. At some point, some kind of autobookmarking for existing wormholes, or non-skill-dependent ability to return from wormhole space will be in the chute before the third post-Apocrypha patch is launched.
Not that I'm downing Bellum at all, I salute his audacity, just saying about things in general... In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

Hahahahah ...
PvP's still there. I think CCP just ran into an issue with the ideas department, myself. They didn't want to take away from what they'd added to hisec, cause that would drive players away. They couldn't just add more losec, because so few use it anyway. Can't add more money to losec, cause then you're just insuring that it gets exploited by few.
Can't just add more nulsec, cause as we saw with the drone regions ... that fails.
Many players wanted a place where small ships were king again. No capitals, no 4 year old carrier alts owning with fighters. No POS battles. No sovereignty metagaming. More importantly, no constant gatecamps.
Personally, I think CCP hit the nail on the head. More players entering dangerous space, becoming vulnerable. More small scale warfare. More exploration, sense of discovery. And in many ways, they were able to test and implement new system designs (trinaries, binaries, 3d nebulas, etc), a new probing system, etc.
Give it six months, and all the new blood will be scared to death again as the '5 year alts' tell horror stories of pirates camping the other side of every wormhole, yadda yadda. But till then ... seems like an excellent solution.
I'm liking it, myself.

I wouldn't call it griefing. If anything, I'd call it a 'failed hostage attempt'. It's still piracy ... it just didn't net any rewards.
Unsuccessful for the intent of making money. Successful in the victimization factor.

Edited by: jasanpete on 12/03/2009 09:43:57 Hahahahaha, i have done a very similar thing this morning, i found high sec wormhole leading to uncharted 0.0. managed to get a little interest from coupld 08 players in their hacs. i went to the wormhole with them in fleet 1 ishtar 1 vagabond. they jumped through with me, the minute they arrived on my overview i warped fleet to planet 1, and of course CTRL space. then left fleet and began chatting in local. after about 10 mins letting them explore they asked where are you. i said at the wormhole. However i have left the fleet at this point and asked them both if they were interested in leaving. Kinda broke at this point i decided to go cheap. asked for 30 mil each for me to rejoin fleet. Isk sent thanks very much. then i put in local gotta go, the wormhole is nearest to planet IV. happy hunting and left, maybe there is room for sooooooo much fun in these new toys we have been granted.
Bellum yours destroys mine in terms of isk, but similar role hopefully more posts about noob/carebear misfotunes are posted soon, i enjoy a good laugh.

AAh that reminds me
I was scouting out a new location for the next village people fanfest.
Having been told that several devout village people had created their homes in Decon , I went to have a look .
While surveying the system a cyno pops up , strangely it seems to be in the middle of nowhere , so I go have a look . ~Lo and behold a carrier in the middle of nowhere .
local pies death of ventura and friends start expressing astonishment , carrier pilot says in local he can can go anywhere he wants because he is so baddass nobody will mess with him .
Local pies appear with bs + ishtar + a few other ships , kill cyno ship , pie ishtar dies to carrier .
Then pie carrier appears and engages tackled carrier.
Carrier pops cyno , pies all run squealing for the hills , apart from tackled pie carrier.
In comes 13 more carriers , pie carrier gets bbqed to crispy crittur in very short time . The 14 carriers jump out.
Much wailing of pies in local , i callect a few buckets of pie tears ( enough for a few gallons of whine ).
-------------------------------------------------------
TL:DR version
pies in decon fell for a very obvious trap and lost a carrier + support.

It was never about the ISK, they were going to die anyway. If they agreed to 1.5b, I would have asked for two. If they said yes to two, I would have asked for three.

Just now this dude in a Charon and another dude in a covops use a WH to get from somewhere (presumably empire) into a Majesta Empire sov 3 system with people in local, and the guy in the charon went happy to a moon to set up a pos.
He doesn't have a charon anymore now. And the tower is also a goner. :D 1.3 billion ISK down the drain. :P ___________________________________

Absolutely superb move. Very funny and well done. Collapsing their exit was a bad move but I guess greed must have reared its ugly head.
You should have said that you have discovered a wormhole but you will only take the strongest...therefore all ships had to fight it out until one remains.
F ôMe, I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for.'ö http://i-pirate.blogspot.com
