Why do this? It was also a quick way to remind yoruself of a ships weaknesses. I can't think of any rational to remove this. Then again I can't understand why a lot of useful stuff has been removed, like the 'ctrl+mousewheel' map activation.

Edited by: Amael Galenus on 11/03/2009 15:50:17 Agreed- I've always struggled to remember ship types from their name alone... now I have to constantly check the market to get their info
Edit: OP is saying that before the patch, if you had a result on directional scanner, you could right click on it and get ships generic info (which gives you its class and base stats)

Oh, I see. Can't you just open the fitting window? At least on the old one there was a link to open up ship info, not sure if it's still there on the new window.

Open the fitting window on a hostile ship?
This could clearly cause a whole new kind of warfare. I like.
What annoys me about this however is that you most likely can no longer lock, approach and all that through the directional scanner. I tend to have the scanner docked with my overview, since I rarely need them both at once. I've had it like that since they allowed targeting and everything such through the overview a few patches ago. Now... I guess it's back to basic. Parrots, commence!

Man, that a MASSIVELY valid point I overlooked. In big fights I always used the directional scanner to lock, this is no longer possible. WHY CCP? WHY?

They have also removed 'wrecks' from appearing on the scan results, even when 'use overview' is unchecked. Pretty impressive, since wrecks still appear on the overview... This was a great check to see if you could see rat wrecks on scan before searching the belts, another little mini-nerf for PvP.

It's also annoying that the directional scanner window will not stay sorted (on what column you select) after you rescan. Very annyoying when you are scanning every five-ten seconds for other peoples probes.

It was also pretty much the only way to determine if a ship in lowsec was at a mission or safe. =\ I suppose with the new probes it doesn't make much of a difference.
