Get used to it.
Not joking. CCP seems to try to scare customers off. Weeks of w8ting on petitions, crashing servers, since the "new" patch my game crashes randomly when online with more than one account... The sound issues are now .. what? almost a year? old. CCP screwed up big time and either dont care, or arent competent enough to fix it.

I get the most hideous popping noises when using invulnerability field mods. I can't hear my missiles fire 90% of the time. Skill training complete deafens me. The only sounds that seem to work are "warp drive active" and "docking request accepted."
WTF mates?

I really don't want to play with sound disabled...its 2010. The music/sound effects are a big part of it.

I got this wonderful advice too when I first complained about the sound: "... then play with sound off". Is it just me or there's some people in this community that are way too much conservative about the game improvement ?
Back on the subject, no sound change for Dominion 1.1 !

Since CCP decided to make the sound "uber super cool and NEW!" they screwed up everything. But thats pretty much what ccp does with every patch or update, not a single one worked without problems, hotfixes or extended downtime, which leads to the conclusion, that the ppl working there have no clue what they are doing, but thats another story. But yeah its 2010 and a game without a sound is well... a better browser game. and normally u dont pay for browser games, do you? On the other hand, if you petition the sound bugs you'll get answers like "Turn the sound off" (That was the actual answer a corp mate got...) Allthough GMs are known to be neither helpful nor friendly (Which again leads to the question if CCP hires the wrong guys for their work), such an answer simply states that CCP is NOT able to fix it (I suppose its due to lack of knowledge see above) Sound Bugs consiste now since about hal a year and there wasn't even a statement to the issue as far as i know.
Conclusion: STOP WHINING about the sound. Either live with it as a "feature" or quit your accounts but I cant hear any more whining about the sound thing.

I don't know how old you are but you should learn one thing, you don't get anything by being quiet and there won't be any progress if we listen to your passive advice. You don't want to hear about whining ? turn off the sound and look the other way.

Patch 1.1
CCP redesigned the jukebox ui, fine, but we still can't play our playlist without it stopping every 2-3 songs, so please take a look at that? Should not be too hard to fix.
Then we really need the option to turn off "positional" sound. Currently I am using AC's and I actually hear some explosions again, yay, however when I go back to arty's I won't hear anything again.
Also, armor hardners and things like that keep "overwriting" turret sounds, depending on how far you zoom in our out. If I zoom in, I only hear armor hardners and armor repair, if I zoom out further I only hear arty's and no incomming fire, if I zoom out exactly enough I am able to hear arty's and incomming fire, but seriously it is crappy this way.
Finally, turrets skip sounds often, even when zoomed in at the "right" spot.
Please fix ?

I'm having the big sound problem too. Lol, just as I wrote this line above, a song finished playing and I entered the eternal silence in EVE.
Please, it's unacceptable that a company like CCP doesn't have a solution to something so simple...

I'm still eagerly awaiting some type of dev response or acknowledgement of the issue.
My eve playing time has been steadily tanking downward as playing with 1/10 of the sounds audible just isn't enjoyable.
I'm amazed personally at peoples complacency in this matter with their "eve has sound?" arguement.
Given the recent MMO of the year mention its shocking that a game of this calibur and reputation can have such a poorly implemented sound engine. Do what Honda did with their sticking gas pedal recall. Fess up, acknowledge the problem and offer reassurance that the issue will be addressed and fixed.

The sound problems are still outrageous, almost a year after the apocrypha launch, for their gravity but also for the lack of any response by CCP except of course some ridiculous workarounds that -guess what- don't work. I filed yet another petition with them and i'm still waiting for the response (which i will post here) asking also if there is any known hardware configuration that actually works cause at this point i have only one question: "The sound works on their computers and they're satisfied or even the devs are forced to play with their sound turned off?????"

Just want to add that when there is mission specific music, sound effects are completely gone.

Just received the response to my petition and guess what...
IT'S THE SAME ONE THEY SENT ME ALMOST A YEAR AGO (15 March 2009).
So as far as progress in resolving the sound issues is concerned i can say one thing. There is none. I will naturally continue to open petitions because it's my right to do so and also because by staying silent i will definitely obtain nothing. So, i invite you all to continue to send your petitions and maybe we will obtain something (at this point even a nod acknowledging that there are sound problems would be nice and that someone is trying to resolve them).

So I just fired up the game after a couple years to see where things were at. AA still doesn't work right, that was a disappointment. Then I noticed the UI made no sound anymore and the tutorial had no voice over. Where did the sound go I wondered? Seeing a UI volume slider I was confused, especially when there was still no UI sound at full. Then I noted that on the Mac version of the game, all sound works perfectly. Hmm. Then I found a thread that indicated UI sounds don't work under Windows 7, but that was 6 months ago, surely they should have fixed it by now? Then I found this thread...
My conclusion is they have better Mac programmers than Windows programmers when it comes to sound, but the Mac client has that annoying issue where it can lock up your system if you try to log out. People here seem to have a rich variety of experiences with the sound, so where I don't here UI, others do but they don't hear some other portion. So what's the deal CCP? No idea how to code sound effects since apparently the Windows client has had issues that vary across OS and hardware version for the last year? Try talking to the Mac folks maybe since they seem to have been able to make sound work.

Be sure to submit a bug report too. That's one of the few things we can do to help (if anyone is actually working on the problems). If you have already sent the bug report you can vent all you want in your petitions.
Let's all unite in a moment of prayer for the new sound engine that will replace this cr**py one.
Cheers

It seems they get alot of sound issues reported, because they automatically send a default massreply to everyone petitioning in the sound category :p
I'll file another bug report, who knows, maybe someone will actually read it.

So, some updates...
I sent a bug report with a description of all the problems most of us are having and in their reply they said that they can't reproduce the problems on their computers. They also said that my driver was old but the last driver that creative made for my model (x-fi fatal1ty) was in July 2009. Anyway, i switched to my onboard card (Realtek HD Audio) installed the latest drivers (22 Jan 2010) and i must say that EVE sounds a bit better. It's not perfect, but definitely an improvement. So if you also have Realtek on the m/b try downloading the new drivers and pray (the latter is the most important one)...

I've somewhat corrected my sound issues. I was using the most current driver for my augidy 2 zs platinum but i noticed in dxdiag that it was not whql certified. I went with an older audigy driver and it now appears as whql compliant and the sound is definately improved but still missing a good bulk of the sounds. with about half of the sounds missing now. Still at a loss as to the issue.

I guess they never heard anything wrong with the new sound engine
It would help if they specified which sound cards are required to achieve a flawless EVE sound experience....
