NH or Vulture - both would work very well against L5's as tanks.

Edited by: Everfire on 09/03/2009 20:33:30 either go with nighthawk/vulture or ishtar, ishtar will do the most dps if you go for full tank ( will tank 2500dps against guristas not cap stable, 1950 cap stable) if you want absolute pure tank go with vulture (3900dps against guristas, cap stable for 21min, or 3600 if you use one passive hardener for cap stableness)
if you want both good dps and "decent" tank go for nighthawk.
/edit: onyx can also fit a good tank, but getting it cap stable might be a prob (ofc only if you use active hardeners). broadsword is also great, use it against sansha, br, angel and use vulture/onyx/ishtar against guristas/serpentis

If you wanted pure tank, without regards to damage. I'd personally go for the Onyx or Broadsword. Their Sig radius is extremely low especially compared to a command ship. Not only that, they receive a 5% bonus to shield resistance per level. For missions that do em/thermal damage the Broadsword will really shine. For other missions dishing out kinetic/thermal damage the Onyx will ofcourse do better than the broadsword.
It really all depends on the t2 resists of the ship you are using, not as much the slot layout. The Ishtar will tank Guristas very well.

Nighthawk is the way foward if you actually want to kill something .. the Dictors dont deal amazing dmg to be honest. even if tho they might tank a bit more.
At least what comes to lvl 4's you can fit 2 BCU 2's to a NH and still run the missions NP.
Even with 2 BCU 2's the NH is not overly fast at killing lvl 4 rats. I'm not even sure can you do lvl 5's in it (solo that is). I have never tried lvl 5 missions my self.
Good Luck

vulture = best tank, or damnation with the nice HP bonus but neither do damage to well.

Level 5 use a full passive tank unless you KNOW there are no neut towers. Your setup sounds about right. Been awhile since I ran one. I would recommend only taking lvl 5's where you are fighting guristas/serprentis/gallente as your tank will fold pretty quick against much else to start. And you will sit at that point were you feel "uncomfortable". Best bet is to train comp skills to 4 as a minimum, and if you feel confident, fit up faction/plex passive hardeners when against other races to fill your resist holes. Minmatar is a real pain to do solo in a NH without plex amps.
