Bad spelling, grammar and punctuation. Yes, it takes about twice as long for others to understand what the hell you guys are yapping about. I go into rage mode when I see this kind of crap: "you will loose you're ship if you use that setup"
Okay, even if you guys are too lazy to form full and coherent sentences at least get the words right. Time for some free education. No need to thank me, although I am accepting isk donations.
Lesson 1 Loose [loos] (adjective): not fitting tightly or closely e.g. He was wearing trousers that were too loose for him. Lose [looz] (verb): to no longer have something or to have something taken away e.g. I'm about to lose my ship to an passive tanked Ibis!!!!
Lesson 2 'You're' a contraction of 'you are' e.g. You're great with spelling, grammar and punctuation. Your (pronoun) e.g. Your Rifter was a pile of crap compared to my passive tanked Ibis!
That's all for now. Please enjoy learning, and don't forget to donate.

It's not really the spelling that gets me sometimes, it's the punctuation, or lack there of. I can't stand trying to read someone's post and it completely lacks any type of punctuation or annotation. Basically, like so:

At least you capitalise and punctuate correctly, and the words have all the correct letters for the correct spelling :)

Well, both annoy me, especially considering that Firefox has a built-in spell-checker, but if I had to pick one that was worse, I'd agree that it'd be lack of punctuation. It makes thing really hard to read.
Am I the only person that goes back and looks over my posts before hitting "post"? This isn't real-time chat--it's worth taking the time to go back over and make sure that your post at least makes sense.
EDIT: Here, I'll contribute:
The number one error I see is confuing "its" and "it's": "its" - belonging to it - "The blockade runner lost its warp strength bonus, but got the ability to fit a covert ops cloak." "it's" - contraction of "it is" - "It's much better at getting through gate-camps now."

Well I use opera on Linux and couldn't get spellchecker working for the longest time. In fact I just got it working about a week ago. I blame the bad instructions

There: as in a place, "Look over there!" Their: possessive: "Their ship was pretty awesome. So I stole it!" They're: Contraction of "They are": "'Q: Which way did he go George?! Which way do he go!?' 'A: They're over that way!'"
Also: I do not know how to use semi-colons, colons, commas, periods, and quotation marks. Signatures are annoying...kinda like me. |

You do realize that many people are in fact from countries other than England or America, and although most do teach English as a second language, a lot of people from those other countries may not have focused their studies on learning a "Foreign" language.
Not that i disagree with you, it is hard to understand certain things at times, but I'd usually find out where they were from before judging their good or bad English. its really just more diplomatic in a sense

Yeah, thanks for spotting that mistake. I originally had 'an Ibis' but then decided to be clever with words. Serves me right, I guess.
Anyway, on with the lessons!!!!!
Lesson 3: Their (pronoun) e.g. Their passive tanked Ibis' were awesome!!!! There (noun/pronoun/adverb/adjective) but its mostly widely used as an adverb or pronoun, I guess. e.g. There is a corp made up of only passive tanked Ibis'.

Haha, I could read it without even think about it.
Although, in all seriousness, walls of text are not an enjoyable read, as is the lack of punctuation (as in, the entire post is on one line and there doesn't seem to be a break in between them and it gets really annoying and...well...you get the point).
Before posting it, hit the preview checkbox and READ IT YOURSELF before posting. If you can't read it, chances are that other person x miles away can't read it either. ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |

The easy answer is that most of us don't care.
The real answer is that you get folks who are like me. They learned to spell phonetically. We can tell a word is spelled wrong, but can not tell you how in a lot of cases.
Then there are the folks who are English as a second, third, or fourth language. The fact they can read/write in multiple languages still astonish's me.
Third, you get folks from all age groups. From out right kids, to people in retirement homes. Ever heard a 95 year old man call primaries? He knows every ship in the game, has excellent pvp instincts, but doesnt' know what an SMS message is.
Then you get folks like me who type around 100 words a minute. Sometimes we're 3 paragraphs in before we notice the nice little red underlines telling us it's spelled wrong. Combine that with the phonetic spelling issues of above, and we're screwed.
There's also the folks who are typing this FAST because their char is sitting at a gate in 0.0 about to jump in, waiting for the rest of the gang to catch up.
Theres also folks like Jenny Spitfire who intentionally make their posts read like a dyslexic, 3 year old with torrets <SP?) syndrom.

The thing I hate most about the forums is being logged out when posting a reply, then coming back and seeing every topic marked as read.
Oh, and bad English? So what... the great thing about free will is that you don't have to read it.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

I'll trade you a lesson for a lesson
Lesson 1 Petty [pet-ee] (adjective): 1. of little or no importance or consequence: petty grievances. 2. of lesser or secondary importance, merit, etc.; minor: petty considerations. 3. having or showing narrow ideas, interests, etc.: petty minds. 4. mean or ungenerous in small or trifling things: a petty person. 5. showing or caused by meanness of spirit: a petty revenge. 6. of secondary rank, esp. in relation to others of the same class or kind: petty states; a petty tyrant.
Ex: "No one cares about your petty forum animosity." _ |

What an an absurd comment to make on the forums, how pathetic are you...you do know that eve is played by thousands of players across the globe, from iceland, to the uk, from the states to russia.. A lot of these countries don't speak english as their first language, so a few spelling mistakes are to be expected. Get used to it you idiot. As I lived in Iceland for 7 years I know how hard it can be to get the grammer/spelling correct, and remember that english is probably one of the hardest languages to write cause so many words that sound the same have a different spelling and it's hard for a non-native speaker to get right..

Yeah, but you can usually tell the difference between a lazy, illiterate native English-speaker and someone who doesn't have English as their first language. Folks in the latter group tend to make an effort to get it right in my experience. Most of the true morons are from the UK and the US, it seems. 'Should/could/would of' is a dead giveaway, for instance. A sure sign of a chav.
In before blaming it on dyslexia! --
