Lately, I've taken stock of my conscience, and I've found that there are some things I need to got off my chest.
It seems that as Goons, perhaps we have been, shall we say, less than charitable. Yes, I will be the first to admit it. I have seen many of my corpmates "smack" in local, insulting honourable opponents. Heck, I must admit that I have done so myself. The result? Anger, hurt feelings, resentment.
I am certain that in the long run, this is not how we want to be remembered in EVE.
This thread is our chance to set things right, hopefully. To apologize to anyone we have hurt or offended. To--dare I say it?--make amends.
Guys, I know we have been mean, and disrespectful, and dishonourable. I realize that we have done a lot to earn your disdain, and if we could change the past, I think we would. We can't. What we can do is help repair some of the harm we have done. And to make a promise that in the future, things will be different. And one day, perhaps, everyone in CAOD will look at a goon thread title and think "A Goon thread! There are sure to be words of truth, of wisdom, within. I look forward to reading it!"
Because let's face it, I think that for some of you, Goons are far from the well-liked and respected group of players we would like to be. For this reason. I think it is time for everyone to tell us their opinions, frankly, without fear of mockery or trolling. What can we do to make EVE whole again? What can we do to end this cycle of hatred and bitterness?
We are ready to do our part. This thread can be the first step. Please, just give us a chance.

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP and wish our allies, enemies and others alike happiness and prosperity in the future.
I can't live with all the anger and animosity surrounding me and my bretheren, and I wish we may some day live in peace.

Many a night I have stared through a POS bubble at the forces arrayed on the opposite side, feeling a growing gulf between us more wide and impenetrable than the narrow sheen of any forcefield. Deep down, I know we all float in the same pod goo, so why can we not appreciate each other as we share the experience of the final frontier?
Someday I am sure we will finally come together and recognize our common humanity; why not today?

I am terribly sorry for any offensive comments made by us goons. I know that the "Russian Mothers" thing was quite upsetting to my friends in -A-. I truly am sorry if your feelings were hurt. Im also sorry for calling BoB cheaters. I'm sorry for being so abusive to our enemies. I know its not necessary or honorable. I prayed about it, and Jesus said I should apologize for saying such bad things.

I do not think piracy is necessarily is a sin. It is important not to be judgemental. In truth, we have blown up our own share of innocent ships.
The important thing, I think, is respect. When you win a fight, be it a large fleet battle or a one-on-one fight, show respect to your opponent; let him know that he has done a good job.
In World War 1, pilots would "salute" each other by tilting their wings one way, then the other. I think this is a pretty neat custom, and adopting something like this in EVE battles would go a long way to showing our opponents that we still consider them people.
It isn't just about saluting, of course. A kind word in local, an offer to help replace the ship that was lost: all these can go a long way.

I wish I could have such a great personality such as yours that leads so many fleets throughout the known spacelanes... Suffice to say, my sub-par fleet commanding will require much improvement to become within a sliver of the standards you set.

Why wait for an date so far off when we could have peace now? Certainly a lady of your impressive stature within the MMORPG community can appreciate the gravity of this situation. It's time we put this conflict behind us and embraced (as best we are able) this new spirit of cooperation. |

First I think it needs to be pointed out that we in Goonfleet have boundless love and respect for our member corporations and our allies. We enjoy their company on teamspeak and in fleet chat, and have invited some of them to participate on our forums, which as you know being a forum based culture that values good posting above all else this is very much like inviting someone into our church.
We do not keep pets or slaves as this inherently is a disrespectful and elitist structure that has no place in the kind of egalitarian galaxy the Swarm believes in. Those people who choose to play alongside us do so because they enjoy the game more when doing it, and we praise their good qualities and don't hesitate to gently point out their shortcomings as is normal between real friends. Our allies never get enough love because there simply isn't enough in all of EVE to give them as much as they deserve! Some people are surprised to learn how friendly goons are because their perceptions have been shaded by irresponsible media and partisan posting, but we are always eager to meet other friendly pilots. I myself have repeatedly extended my hand to opponents of our alliance, and I have received many messages of encouragement from like minded people. Messages of surprise were common as well, coming from pilots who had the wrong impression of the Swarm and wanted to open channels for clear communication.
In my last thread I called for the younger pilots of EVE to rise in opposition to the old and embittered leaders of their alliances, to declare that they were not content to siege or camp or sit waiting for form-ups that might never come or answering CTA's that don't do anything again and again so that the elder players could accomplish goals of revenge laid down years before any of us started playing the game. Many of you wrote back with great enthusiasm for the idea of more open communication between players in 0.0 going a long way toward laying the ground work for a future beyond the old grudges. I hope that you will continue your efforts (as I have) to bring a more civil element to the bitter wars of 0.0
I know that it can be painful to lose ships and towers and all the elements like mods and anchorable structures that go along with them. I myself have lost a bunch, as anyone can see from our killboard! But I think it's really important to not allow the temporary frustration born from those losses to become a lingering bitterness and hatred that twists away the real point of this game: having fun. It is my belief that some of that anger and pain can be softened when both parties treat each other in a respectful fashion, which is why I have always been an advocate for respectful engagements between opponents. Remember that we are all human, and that we can connect with each other on that level no matter which corporation or alliance we happen to belong to.
This is not just a collection of gratitude and pretty words, this is also a call to action! Join with me to create a more civil EVE, an EVE where people treat each other with the respect they deserve as human beings. Forget about alliance or corporation tickers, don't judge people by those- they're ephemeral! But the feelings generated by your actions on each other will last.
I want to thank all of you who have stood against us in this game. You have helped to give us focus and channel our efforts. I hope that you understand that without you none of this would have been possible. Fly safe, friends. --------------

Perdtjie, I do not speak for the directorate but I am sure that your attitude towards other players and LadyScarlet in particular was a major factor in your corporation's dismissal from our alliance. Please remember to treat everyone in this game with respect, regardless of your personal feelings towards them or their behavior with chickens. |

Forgiveness is essential, but it is a two way street. First off, by forgiveness I mean to put aside the bad blood which has stained our EvE community. After all, we are all playing on the same shard. IÆd like to take this time to point out a key difference between different levels of hostilities. The first level of hostilities is ærecreationalÆ hostility. ItÆs how you feel about the rival team when playing an informal game of a team sport like basket ball, hockey, or football, and it he level we wish to see return to EvE online. For too long the people of the EvE universe have been in a state of heightened hostilities which have cause real life drama and heartache, well we mean to do away with that with a new set of initiatives. In game hostilities should still be taking place but the vitriolic bile spewed by both sides should be put to rest. We need to both come to terms with the fact that we have to share this server, and like it or not we are neighbors and must respect each other(at least in some regards.)
This will take a great effort form all sides but I can tell you that GoonSwarm is taking the proper steps to insure that we hold up our end of the bargain. We have already installed a new team of diplomats who are more ævelvet gloveÆ than æiron fistÆ, and I believe this will go a long way to improve our standings in the community. Also, we have created new initiatives to increase the goodwill shared between us and the community. I will explain two of these exciting initiatives below.
For too long now 0.0 warfare has been a stagnant battle of logistical Player Owned Station warfare which has ground to a halt any of the fun player versus player combat that most of us enjoy. We at Goonswarm have sought to remedy this by including new and thrilling ways of using our space. For instance we have set up a an area in the south known as ôThunderdomeö. This area is a lawless free æpew-pewÆ zone which is open to all but those entities we are at war with(For practical reasons of course). We have also set up a broad and comprehensive CAOD posters advisory board to improve, develop, and mature our image to the EvE community. I am happy to report that I am a co-chair of said committee and I look forward to working with my fellow Goonswarm members and fellow posters of this forum.
The main goal of these initiatives is of course repair the damage done by over zealous propaganda machines on both sides. For too long have alliances and corporations have breed hate for the enemy with vile lies or exaggerations. What we hope to do is bring combat to EvE without the hate, to make EvE an enjoyable, but competitive, game. And you do that by instilling a sense of proper conduct and sportsmanship into our playerbase, something we hope we can bring to this community.

Might I suggest that when CCP implements in-station walking, that we have the ability to show our new found benevolent paradigm to our fellow station mates. Imagine how pleasant it would be to see a friendly wave as you walk by another pod pilot. Are hugs out of the question? Back rubs? How about a nice finger point and eye wink combo? After a long day of battle in space, I'd like to stand toe to toe with the opposition and shake his hand. Please quote this if you are agreeable to my proposition.
