That's a repost but yeah, that's how I see a carebear; somehow feeling morally better as he doesn't blow up people in a pvp game while actually being much much worse has he wishes RL crap happening to people. While at the same time being completely unable to THINK logically about actions and their possible repercussions.

Personally, I thought it was funny that he got so mad he claimed he wanted to hurt people in real life. Like, really? Do people take this game so seriously that they'd literally...
...you know what? Scratch that, there are some crazy people in this world.
Anywho, I could be called a carebear, I guess. I don't PvP really, though I'd like to try it when I feel my character's good enough for it (5m skill points feels too little).

The amount of "I hope you get cancer", "I hope you fall off the stairs and break your neck" etc etc I get every day is astounding. And this from people who state in their bio/corp info being friendly, mature and not tolerating a$$hattery.

Edited by: Lucia Wilber on 02/03/2009 10:19:04 Honestly? If someone blew me up, I'd be ****ed. Maybe even at them for preying on me, but that's different from:
A) Wishing them harm IRL for playing the game by its own rules. B) Being mad at them for being "mean" to me.
I'd mostly be ****ed at the situation. At having to go get a new ship, at having to buy new implants, at not having paid attention to local and docked as soon as someone entered the system. I stay away from Lowsec / 0.0 because I can't hang out there yet, and when I travel through lowsec, I know the risks and don't do it unless I'm in a ship I'm prepared to and can afford to lose.

My impression of carebears.
Greedy, selfish and/or anti-social people who's form of enjoyment is to accumulate as much wealth as possible, or to obtain the most expensive equipment the game can offer, without the risk of losing it.
Anyways, thats how I view them. -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |

For online games in general it's a good way to make sure they make mistakes. Enraged people often make more mistakes than cool-headed people. -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |

Why I love Eve: Psychological warfare.
'You guys are such nubz - too chicken to engage a decent fight' 'whatevez' 'nubz' 'that does it I'm proving how we're going to pwn you' *ok have the guys jump in once they're aggressed* *they aggressed* 'Oh hai - we're the blob' 'crap' 'lulz'
I've saved all my hate mails from bbqing people who take this game too seriously. More valuable than any mod in game to me.

Didn't bother sticking around for the rants. Don't care. Saw all I needed at the start. Mining solo on the lo/nosec border. Kinda like getting mad that you got mugged walking down a dimly-lit street in a bad neighborhood late at night alone.

Edited by: Boknamar on 02/03/2009 19:06:49 Some people automatically label mission runners, miners, industrialists, etc. as carebears, but in my opinion, this is a sloppy generalization. I think it's hard to know whether someone is a "carebear" unless you converse with them, and it can be a very funny or frightening experience.

I see your point, but comparing PvP in a game to a violent crime? Classy.

Personally, I enjoy a good fight as much as anyone else, but I also enjoy peaceful business transactions as well. PvP doesn't necessarily mean with lasers, bullets and missiles. It can also include market warfare!
Still....I blows up yur shipz!

If you like. I think of it more as comparing rank stupidity with rank stupidity, but to each their own. My point is that nine times out of ten you're only a victim in this game if you let yourself be one.
