There is no special limits for public labs. The limits are
- 20 Copies maximum (any number of runs on each) - 30 days or 1 run, whichever is longer.
These apply to all labs, everywhere.
This by the way was introduced in 2005 with the whole queue mechanism for production, it only applies to making BPCs, the 30 days / 1 run limit applies to all production and research.
The actual reason for the number of copies limit, is the production of a copy actually generates quite a bit of load, and storage requirements etc etc. Each copy has to be individually tracked and created. 20x1500 run copies is the same load as 20x1 run copies. This stops people from putting on jobs of say 100,000 copies x 1 runs.

Yep - considering that it used to be possible to bring down a node just by copying bookmarks (before the 5 per operation limit was imposed), this is a very sensible restriction. --- Can't afford that BPO? Look here. 20:1 mineral compression The EVE f@h team |

Oh so it's basically to avoid the same problems we had with bookmark copies? That makes more sense. I can see the problem with 100,000, but 20 seems a bit stingy. If I want to do max run ammo I have to screw around with my labs at least twice a week.

not realy
you see part of the cost of useing public Research slots is the time it takes to actualy get your research done.
and because Time = money in this game you see a kind of R&D "aftermarket" with people buying copies and researched BPOs and investing in R&D corps along with the high sec Deathstar POSs.

I was basing my comment on two observations:
1) Seeing that there's not many slots open... I very seldom see them.
2) Hearing my corp mates complain about not having public open slots.
I figure that by increasing price, there will be some open slots... I figure that the current slots are not correctly priced. :) |

The price doesn't appear to move at all. I've seen the same copy slots out in lowsec with 1-2 days wait time constantly, they cost 8.33 ISK/hour.

edit: However, your comment makes me curious. Is it faster to research blueprints at a private POS or whatever?
1 -because everyone uses them 2 - because they want to use them
"I figure-" no they will still be just as crammed and backlogged, just more expensive
"Edit: However" - Yes

Edited by: Arpad Elo on 02/03/2009 23:49:04 Thanks guys.
Your comments have been insightful. In my ignorance, I'd assumed that there would be a price point at which all slots would be available, by contrast to our current prices.

Yes they ARE way too low, because an ideal price for them would be where they were fully utilised but there was no queue. If there is a long queue, it means that the price is too low, if there are heaps of empty slots, it means the price is too high.
The price of them doesn't change, it is set where it started when the queue system was introduced, and that was almost immediately following a doubling of the slots which brought the price crashing down.
The price of any such restricted facility in Eve should increase in price with demand, but aside from offices, they don't.
