They have a number in the lower right corner suggesting that they can be packaged and stacked. Also, if they must be assembled first, does it take a freighter to deploy them? Also, do POS's need to be fueled with a freighter?

Edited by: donteatme on 26/02/2009 19:59:37 you can launch them as is with the number still in the box and they can be launched from any ship that can hold them from an industrial to a freighter
thay can be fuled by any ship that cna hold cargo from a freighter to a shuttle (though if you refule your poses with a shuttle you may want to check yourself into the local nut house)

Doh!
But ya, posses are not as big as you would think so a reasonably sized indy is fine to launch it.. its the fuel.. omg the fuel... i would throw a component array at my pos to store 2 - 3 months, at least, of fuel so i wouldnt have to lug the stuff from the station every time i had run low.

A small subtlety: You can't launch the tower or fuel an offline tower from a freighter. The tower has to already be anchored and online for a freighter to launch or fuel it.

I think you can launch it from the freighter. I remember doing it on sisi a while back.
I know you can't fuel an offline tower from a freighter.

This is all good information. I appreciate the replies. I figured that I may not be able deploy the POS from a freighter because it didn't have a jetison tube. The fueling I wasn't sure about, because I generally have to be docked before I can do anything with stuff in the freighter cargo hold. Wasn't sure how that would work in space, sitting next to a POS.

That's quite possible. Either way you'll need a hauler carrying a couple hours of fuel ready when you've anchored it to dump fuel in and online it.
You can definitely launch modules and stuff from a freighter once the tower is online. I do it all the time.
If you're sitting within a certain range of an online control tower you can manipulate your freighter's cargo like in a station. The one thing to be careful of is Freight containers. You CAN'T put anything into a GFC at a pos. You can only take stuff out. This is very annoying the first time you try to do it. The easiest thing is just to leave them at the station.

You can launch all POS modules from a freighter and you can also fuel an offline POS from a freighter. Well you can put all the fuel in except Enriched Uranium so you need another small ship around that can drop that in.
Simply put the POS fuel in freight cans inside the freighter - launch the POS control tower from the normal freighter bay. When anchored open the freight cans inside the freighter and you can put the fuel into the tower when it is offline. The only exception to this is Enriched Uranium which will not go inside freight cans due to its volaticity. --

That's not my experience (last night's, in fact) - you can launch but not anchor from a freighter - pain in the a**e that was. OTOH the towers are very small and do fit into an indy's hold. So the sequence of launching/anchoring/onlining the POS seems to be as follows: 1. Get a couple of days worth of fuel and the tower into an indy and fly out to your chosen site. 2. Launch/anchor the tower. Get min fuel in - online it. 3. While it's onlining itself (takes forever, btw) - go back to your base, load more fuel, corporate hangar array (very handy for storing fuel - 1,400,000 m3 capacity) and anything else you want to make up your POS into a freighter. 4. When it's online - do not forget to set the password for the force field as there is no forcefield without it! 5. Launch/anchor/online CHA - dump the fuel in. 6. Launch/anchor/online (if required) the rest.
The CHA looks exactly like your corporate hangar, ie it has 7 compartments with the same names etc. I just use them to store fuel in "Max No. of Days the Tower holds" less 2 and when the time comes simply dump the contents into the tower fuel bay.
YMMV
p.s. Not Sure where this "Enriched Uranium is a no-no in freighters" comes from. Big freight containers offer no benefits in storage space - why use them at all?

Sorry Micheal you obviously didn't get my post.
The point I was making was that you can indeed use a freighter to ancho/online and fuel a POS when someone said you couldn't. I simply pointed out how to do that, you have to use freight cans to fuel the offline POS as you cannot fuel it from the normal freighter hangar.
As for not being able to anchor from a freighter, I'm sorry but it doesn't care what ship you are in once it's been launched, I've setup dozens of POSs from freighters (except the enriched uranium part). --
