ok so I thought I would try and reinstall some games I havent played in a while, so went to install, only to find I no longer have the manual, but have the box and CD, but this is useless as its the damn manual that has the key!!
Is there anyway to get these keys back somehow? via serial number or something?

If, when you originally installed the games, you registered them then you should be able to contact the publisher for a replacement key.
If you didn't (and the games are to be played offline-only) then a keygen or crack may be your only recourse.
If you go down the keygen route though be very careful and make sure your antivirus and anti-spyware software is up to date before you start! ===================================== It smells of spoon! ===================================== |

Or from now on, you can store all your CD keys on a file on your computer and constantly back it up, that way you never lose it. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

For future use, the above advice is very good. I note all my games' serial numbers in a text file so on reinstalling, can just refer to that and copy/paste. For the immediate future, not really much to be done if you can't find your original cd keys. The publisher may offer a service to issue you a new one though will usually require a proof-of-purchase (ie original store receipt).
If you don't need to play online, simplest solution would be to use a crack/keygen as suggested. If you do, perhaps you'll find the game for very low prices on the internet...most games get very cheap 18-24 months after their original release, so a few s/$s can get you online again quite quickly.
Lastly if you have a game/program already installed on your machine (and working), you might be able to find a program that retrieves your serial numbers. They can easily be found with some time on google. I rescued my windows key more than once with such a program having lost my original xp cd eons ago. -------------

I would also like to add to this: You can also find the keys to games you already have installed by searching in the registry (Run -> regedit). Not all games do this, but some do have it saved here. Just Control-F and search for the game, chances are the CD key will be there for future reinstalls if you lost the manual. (Just be sure not to edit anything!)
And just to reinforce the previously stated idea, it is a good idea to save them in a word document.

Or re-buy the games from steam (or add them if allowed), and no more cd-key/cd/dvds to deal with ever again :) And yeah, as above poster mentioned, some games save the serial key info within regedit. -----------------------------------

Games like Sims 2 keep a copy in the registry and you can go online to see them.
