Hello great CCP! Mad

Thought I would add my 2 pence worth. My ISP is BT ( British Telecom ) and since returning to the game a few days ago, I have been getting the same message as others ( socket closed ) I am UK based and have never had issues with EVE before.

I have today closed 2 accounts, leaving me with just this one, I am hoping that CCP gets its head out of the sand, and address a fault that is of there own making.

And with the credit crunch apon us CCP, it may be worth noting to your fat cats!! Look after the customers you have, cos you aint going to get any new ones for a while!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wink

I've migrated from Tiscali to demon internet paying more and seen what a bad connection looks like through ping plotter the first time round.

My connection has been working fine upto QR where it all fell to pieces, I know of one person who had the problem a week before myself.

Im annoied as its an obvious issue effecting hundred of players but with no acknowledgement from CCP, even the known issues page.

This leeds me to belive its not there problem, perhapse a server is packetshaping the data and removing torrents/game information???

Either way its like being blacklisted after waiting, playing and paying for a game over years just having no solace in an answer Mad

Finding the crashdump

1. Press Windows Key + R and paste the following line into the Run window.

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\ if you use Windows XP
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\ if you use Windows Vista.

2. Find the .dmp file with the most recent time stamp. Files called #error*.txt are useless.

1. Also run the DirectX diagnostics tool: Press 'Start' and select 'run'. Type dxdiag and hit enter. When you do this, a window will pop up.
2. Click the "Save All Information" button that's located in its lower right corner.
3. In order to thoroughly test your connection to the EVE server then I recommend that you download a program called pingplotter which is available here http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_2.exe If you are running a hardware firewall (SPI Firewall) on your router you will need to disable it, as otherwise this program won't work.
After starting up pingplotter do the following in the program:

1) Under "Adress to trace" put the following value in the box: 87.237.38.200
2) In the bottom left corner in the box "# of times to trace" put the value 1500
3) In the bottom left corner in the box "Trace Intervals" change it to 2.5 seconds
4) In the bottom left corner in the box "Samples to include" change it to 1500.
5) Click on "Trace" button in the bottom left corner.

When it's completed save it as the sample set ( pp2 )

4. Then compress all files and attach the compressed file to either this e-mail or by using the attachment box by logging in to "My Petitions" on our homepage ( http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/Petitions/MyPetitions.aspx ) and opening the petition there. An attachment box is presented after opening the petition.

I have this problem - http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=959429 - after every system downtime, then I suffer from socket disconnects.

My 3 month sub runs out in a couple of weeks. If this issue is not resolved or at least acknowledged as being worked on then there is no way I can justify continuing to pay for the game.

About 2-3 days ago, my Eve clients have started randomly disconnecting. It happens anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour or so. If I don't select "log off" myself, it will eventually, after a couple of minutes, drop me down to the log-in screen. If I'm running multiple clients, they all disconnect at the same time. However, each time, I am able to immediately log right back in with no delays. The game doesn't crash, it's just a disconnection. Any other online games work fine, it's just Eve. Any suggestions?

-edit- edited to add that lag is not an issue. Eve will be running fine, at normal speed, when it simply disconnects.


I Just tried to connect without a router - same effect.
Next step for me - replace the ntdll.dll. May be this will help.

Silence of CCP about this issue totally disappoints me.

A couple more things...

On page 5 of this thread CCP mentioned this page: http://kb.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=119 - which amongst other stuff says "If you are using a D-Link router then try to bypass it, if that works then the problem is within the router and we recommend that you contact D-Link customer support.".

I am using a D-link router but I have no way to bypass it, it's my ADSL modem and router. If I were to contact D-link, what should I say - I hardly think I can email then "Eve doesn't work, please fix it". Especially as it was working fine until a week ago. I'm running the latest firmware in the router.

Also I note lots of people with this problem are running non D-link routers.

ETA as a point of interest I'm now in the game and have not been disconnected for 3/4 of an hour! And I have tried a couple of further things to fix, but to be honest I'm 99.99% sure the problem will return soon, by the end of tomorrows downtime at the very latest. If this proves not to be the case I will come back and mention what I did!

Same i've only had these problems since about the 23rd. Can't play at all, get past the character screen and when i try do anything, talk etc, i get socket closed. Maybe its XP, cos i use XP, you do, someone else who had both on the same network, the XP comp didn't work.

Why? I have no idea, both are wireless. the desktop is Xp, the laptop vista, though ironically the desktop runs premium client.

I just wanted to note i fixed the socket lost on my end. I reset my router to factory defaults, and then Eve was working fine. I reset all my settings, exactly the way they were, and Eve is still working fine.

I have no idea wtf happened, since it randomly started one night without me making any changes, but I can play just fine again. Might be worth a try for some of you...

I'm running Windows XP sp3. HW? Not sure what that means. I can enter the game, just after selecting my character and entering the main game, i get the socket closed error and it disconnects me.

Edit: Nvm, hardware Razz

Intel P4 3ghz with HT tech.
Geforce 7300GT 512mb AGPx8.
1.5gb RAM.

Using a Belkin G+ router and Linksys wireless adapter. I can play any other game and use any other application that uses internet.

Same for me.
Tried EVERYTHING listed in this topic - read it very carefully. Nothing happens. Eve crashes afted 1-10min of gameplay on premium account.
Very bad for me, since a bought new computer to experience better EVE perfomance.

CCP, are you going to own up to there being an issue that is affecting many people, most of who do not share the same ISP/configuration etc?

Not sure about everyone else, but I am getting tired of it now and am prepared to suspend my account and stop paying until the problem is resolved.

I wonder how many of us would need to do the same before someone takes the problem seriously enough?

Wanted to share that I'm also getting these issues for at least one week now, rendering the game unplayable. I ALMOST lost my new ship while missioning due to this, and I'm not able to mine like I'd like anymore.

EDIT for more information;

At first, I could play for one or two hours without any issues, now it's constant every 10 minutes or so.. it's not my ISP, as I use vent and messenger and I don't lose connections to those services when I lose conection in EVE.

This is not my ISP's issue, this is clearly CCP's.

No other online game has constant disconnects like this, I play three. Ping plotter software shows only huge packet losses to the eve servers. Petition answers tell me it's my ISP's fault.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been discoing more and more. Before I could be on for an hour or two at a time, now im lucky if I can connect to Tranq. As virtually every other poster has pointed out, our respective internet connections are doing fine, this isnt on our end.

I just hope you fix this thing once and for all, before we all lose much more game time.

I'm having the same issue. My ISP connection is solid. My connection to Tranq isn't. I have a continuouos ping running to Google.com and one running for eve-online.com and not only is the ms count over 200 more to ccp, it's iterrupted far more often.

5 months I am having disconnection troubles, never had anyone in the year before. So please can you just avoid to tell it is our ISP's fault, because I can easily assume we are not all french and have an "Orange" ISP connection, are we?

This has nothing to do with connection on my part od my isp nodes, this is a problem at the server end, probably some means ccp installed to combat macro miners or lag that is preventing a lot of their paying customers to run more than one client at the same time.

I dont mind ccp fighting crime however they want, but if their policy have changed they should announce it - Like if they only allow one client connection from each household at the time.

I get that error too, and socket closed, etc.
This also seems to entirely disconnect my router and I lose all internet access, usually requiring me to unplug the router to get a connection back.
What the hell is going on here? I can't play at all as it stands now.

Ive had the randon disconnecting problem for about a week, keeps saying socket closed etc.

Last night I followed the suggestion of someone else and eve stayed connected for 2 and half hours, although lagged every now and then.

What I did was open up the recruitment channel and under the trade channels opened up the Ships, Mods and other chancels. I took blinking off and just left them and this has helped me stayed connected as there is always something going on in these channels and eve does not then become idle.

Only a suggestion and hope it helps as I know what a huge pain it is to keep being disconnected.

I just received a mail from CCP about one of my CLOSED petitions stating that this issue has been resolved and is now live on the test servers.

Cross your fingers, throw a penny, shave a monkey or give some pleasure to a cow (whatever your religion promotes, basically) and maybe it'll be fixed by the next patch!

As I said earlier, my issue is fixed, so, I wish the best of luck to you guys!

They tend to occur more frequently when EvE client is not interacting too much with server.

yup i get same issue time to time, seems random but cant say so for sure, happens even when i'm not doing anything with the client...

Same here! Last night, I had absolutely no disconnections! Incredible! I do sometimes have 'hang time lag' that can be as long as 20 seconds, but the game doesn't disconnect. It's still dangerous for PvP and 0.0 computer pirate hunting, but a lot less than disconnecting!

A little bonus on the side is that I don't lose my drones all the time!

I'll have to see if it was a temporary thing or if it will stay that way!

Belkin said it wasnt their router but it worked fine when I plugged the internet directly in to my computer.
Today Belkin released a beta firmware for the N1 Vision and I have been on for 2 hours and I have not dropped.

This is NOT an ISP Issue! All other onlinegames and internetsites, downloads, uploads is working fine. What a coincidence this came after the patch, and only after the patch?

CCP should take their customer's concerns serious! Your game lives off us.

Every now and then (more now than then),
Eve lags out, I type in chat, third thing I type I disconnect. Items take ages to drag, stacks don't work, Chats opening are bugged so I can't read what somebody writes, have to relog. Station lags and stutters while space runs better than ever.

Btw, thanks for the intensely important fixes made in this expansion, like those really vital gate graphics or the new design for the harpy.... Oh and thanks for those neat certificates. 2 years into the game and I have 1 elite cert.... right.

Heya! I don't like to be a pain but if it was 'fixed' just the day after, it may have been a temporary ISP problem (such as repairing a line, etc) and is not related to our common problem.

I've tried running 2 accounts on the same computer and running 2 accounts on different computers with different network cards (one on wireless, one wired in) but on the same router. I disconnected with both methods on both accounts.

However, the funny thing is that the 2 accounts did not disconnect at the same time! The disconnections were in the same 'time lapse', but did not occur at the same time. I would be able to still play with one account while I was connecting back the other, and then the former would disconnect while I would be able to play on the later.

So, here is a quick recap of the problem:

1 - Frequent random disconnections, correlated with server 'peak time';

2 - Happens regardless of Vista or Win XP;

3 - Happens regardless of account;

4 - Network card drivers and router firmware are up to date;

5 - PingPlotter shows high packet loss on the CCP server just before the 'game' one;

6 - Disconnections are 'in the same time lapse', that is, you will disconnect multiple times for a contiguous 10-15 minutes, then you'll be able to play for around 10 minutes;

7 - Disconnections give you a 'hang time' that makes you believe you're still on, but you're not;

8 - This problem, because of it's repetitiveness, prevents anyone from doing PvP or anything in low security space.


This sums it up, just tell me if I forgot something.

So, CCP, everyone here has different ISPs, so there can't be that much people with crappy ISPs JUST FOR EVE. Somehow, you manage the packet transfers differently and this makes us disconnect, while no other games do so.

Examples of games that do not disconnect:

- Everquest II;
- Lineage II;
- Lord of the Rings: Online;
- PlanetSide, The former (MMO with 10 players on is considered dead);
- Warhammer Online;
- World of Warcraft;
- You name it...

People of this thread and those reading it would really like to have stable connections with you guys. I think, and I am talking for myself although I think many think the same, that you should fix this problem before putting in new ships, new missions, cool walking around stations, implanting space wildlife, etc.

Not being to play means not being able to see all that cool stuff...

Although, I think I can see a correlation with EVE Voice being switched on. I think that I disconnect more often when EVE Voice is on.

Since 24 hours ago, Random disconnects began. Then they became more frequent, ranging from 1 hour to instant disconnect upon login. I would disconnect right after clicking my portrait, or as soon as I moved my mouse at the station. It seemed to be even worse if I tried to login w/ alternate character.

I then tried my secondary laptop. Same problems occurred. My Original laptop is running Win XP, SP2. My second is running Win Vista.

Below I have detailed all of my info. I will re-install and try a petition if I cannot resolve matter.

Starting at jump 7 is where I begin seeing the avg ping go from single digits to +821 at jump 5, but packet loss is relatively low until jumps 8-10. Even still, the CCP server is only dropping a 30% PL, which was the same roughly from jump 7 or 8. I would not doubt that my ISP is sucking somewhat, and couple that with the CCP server, it doesn't spell out a pretty picture. The REAL trouble all begins with telia.net (CCP Servers 7-10 or at least I assume this since the Seabone and telia nameserver is carried all the way to host ip) & is constant throughout the whole pingplot.

My issue is the same, seem to loose the internet connection totally... close eve and its fine and dandy.

I doubt that all of our routers that have been working fine, and still work fine with other applications have all suddenly broken. Also many of us are using different ISP's (virgin media here) so that is an unlikely issue.

The fact it only happens in eve leads me to believe it's a prob with eve only. And the fact it kills the whole net connection points more towards the client.

Closing other applications like mIRC and xfire seems to help a bit. And the disconnects for me happen when I am doing things like checking the market and sorting out hangers. I can almost guarantee a disconnect when shifting lots of stuff around the corp hanger.

I have run the trace route but that fact it seems to kill my connection just makes it look like "isp problems" This could still be the case if the isp is blocking the connection for high bandwidth or something but eve should be THAT bad (20mb unlimited cable connection)

I have to build up a few PC's for someone so might see if the issue happens on them, would narrow it down to connection & or network hardware / computer software and or hardware

But apparently there are a lot of bad as well as lost packets. Enough bad bits that occasionally error detection and correct of packets is overwhelmed.

So I not only get lag but bad commands help extend those wonderful moments of UI lock out without causing a disconnect. There have been times when I would have begged for a disconnect so that I didn't lay there for minutes inviting a pulverizing by rats of all types. Lost a rigged Drake today in the end for those reasons.

Worse yet...these bad/altered UI commands are occasionally valid commands if not the ones I entered. So I get to watch my turning down a long Level 4 combat mission to pirate infested low sec -- turn into "Yes I accept because I love low sec missions."

Oh and watching autopilot turn off or on when I did not ask for that is amusing too...especially when I set a way point just short of low sec to switch to a rookie ships for low sec scout. But now "autopilot on, proceed immediately!"

Basically a software firewall tends to finish lagging out a marginal connection. And a hardware firewall cannot fix a connection that is already beyond marginal.

Software firewalls do increase Internet delays by a few 10 to 100 ms over most hardware firewalls. So SOMETIMES turning off software firewall or substituting a hardware firewall helps.

Also software firewalls tend to kill off bad packets without "comment" to sender (trying to be stealth to attackers) that EVE and some hardware firewalls would have made a "comment" to EVE Servers about -- thus causing a packet resend and updating the "still connected" timer.

...

As far as being useful...software firewalls help most against stupid malware (ones that aren't smart enough to attach themselves to known legitimate applications). And I have personally seen malware turn off and also fake most software firewalls as still being active...just like weaker antivirus. Thus the main problem with software firewalls (other than delay and sucking up CPU) is that they can create a false sense of security.

But if you are aware of their limitations software firewalls are generally a minor improvement...except those that are hell to configure and keep configured. Still because of smart malware turning off and faking software firewalls, I'd at least run simple hardware firewall as well to keep malware exposure from increasing after the first failure.

I always found the original selling concept of software firewalls hilarious -- software condom!!! "My computer is infected to my eyeballs - but with X brand software firewall I will prevent my infections from spreading around the Internet...and therefore no removal action is needed until I have time."

Same for me. It lags massively as soon as I enter the game screen, then nothing loads and after a few minutes it disconnects back to log-in screen.

Submitted my petition with a PingPlotter result and my dxdiag. Hopefully something will come out of it.

From 17:00 to around 23:00 every day (GMT) everything related to EvE is lagging, disconnecting and being an all-round pain. EvEMon keeps saying that the Tranquility server is offline at regular intervals, and characters that are logged in get disconnected after what appears to be a session timeout, regardless of their in-game locations. I have tried playing from after 23:00 to well after 03:00, and the game runs fine then.

Thing is, this is not just happening to me. My friend living 40km away is also having the same problems, as well as another friend of mine who's in another country altogether (Denmark). Other internet-related activites work fine at these times. These problems all started sometime last week. I do not run ZoneAlarm, but I do run Sygate Personal Firewall, free edition.

I thought that it might be messing up my connection, so I turned it off. But I disconnected anyway.

So, I think it's safe to say that Sygate is not a big pile of cow dung or whatever large mammal you can imagine (I personnaly imagine a blue whale's dung).
