More about Jovians? I'll give you more about jovians: those creeps started the events from this chronicle.
After the first war there were a lot of loose ends: minmantar slaves and Caldari Prime. The Jovians knew it and you don't have to be a genious to forsee that there'll be another war on those issues. Right after that they brought capsule tech to the empires. This way they made sure the war will be fought in lowsec by capsuleers and not in hi-sec by the navies, for the reasons stated in this chronicle.
[I strongly suspect that the Jovians are working hand-in-hand with CCP to bring more population to low-sec...]

I've been the official chronicle writer for going on two years (all but two chrons from "The Greatest Joke" upwards are mine), so if you see something new it's usually fair to assume that I wrote it This is changing a bit, though: The next chron is by Gnauton (as the awesome "Silent Furies" was), and he's got more stuff in the pipeline.

Sure they can -- for a large shipping charge. I think the shipping is as much as the book itself.

The US Amazon site does list it, but there is some question over if it's actually in stock, last I checked, and it seems that the price is inflated due to them having to get it from the UK. Someone -- not sure if it was CCP or the publisher -- made a MAJOR blunder in not having the book released in the US when it was released elsewhere (I think there will be a US release in Augest, from what I saw on Amazon).

WOW good read I must say. I love reading the chronicles and I love reading about how the war is progressing and seeing how each side is affected by it. I personally think the Jovians have something up their sleeves. And this Empire war is exactly what they want. We'll keep up the good work, can't wait to get my hands on the book.

Great cron. Love how well combined humour, information and the fade-over writing style are in this piece. And the artwork suits it nicely.

Also noticed a wee little typo at the end around "took out from his pocket a small datapadand cracked a joke about wars.". Misses a space there. Though I'd point that out

Sadly one can easily replace "Caldari" with "Amarr", "Minmatar" or "Gallente" and it would sound just the same.

Faction war is fun, but Im wondering why the navy is so ineffective.The Gallenteans put 40 ships in Nourvukaiken (or however its spelled) & stayed there for hours.Isnt the navy supposed to be like Concord & spank any war targets who enter enemy hi sec space?

The Gallente are the second section of the chron.

From the sound of it the State is looking to pick up where the first war left off. Will have to wait for the Caldari centric chron. Possibly the Caldari have a 'long' cultural memory.

It's a really tiny thing, but the use of "sir" here, where every other reference to the Caldari Admiral was "ma'am", threw me and made me have to re-read a couple of paragraphs back. Immersion-breaking grammar aside (and yes, I'm a self-confessed Grammar Nasty) I really liked this piece. The first scene-change caught me a bit off guard, but that's a perfect metaphor for Eve, where nothing is handed to you on a plate and everything has to be worked for. Definitely 0.99 out of 1.0.

The Jovian part was good, as the Joves were properly monitoring all four conversations at the same time giving them the same flow of the talk as we the readers did.

This was, like, woah. Excellent piece. Bloody brilliant. I was thrown off for a couple of seconds by the first scene change, but once I figured it out, it was simply amazing. Not only a very nice piece of PF but also works as literature.

As far as literary value goes, I would have left out the Jovians; I think that bit was quite unnecessary for the story. But my guess is that was preparation for things to come and so a necessary hint to players, and yes, I much prefer getting info to players over poetical values.

Am I blind when I don't see it stated who the author is?

Really good chronicle, way to go Abraxas!

I think CCP, and particularly the writers, are doing a great job expanding on the novel.

The structure of this chronicle is very interesting - both showing how similar all of the empires are and yet underlining some differences.

I just finished the book yesterday and I must say that the revealed details make EVE cluster a lot more interesting place.

I hope you will continue the trend and give us more and more backstory. But don't forget to include some hard facts about EVE world background like in the earliest entries.

Oh, and Jovians - pretty please, with sugar and a cherry on top, give us a bit more than few lines about them. I don't want all-cards-open stuff, just a bit more insight into their motivation or what they are up to.

So, in short, great job Abraxas!

Cant wait for it - the novel was great, but although it referred to the capsuleers a lot, it really didnt explain how they would be bought into the war, so it will be great to fill the gaps

Hi folks,

On Monday July 7 we'll publish another in the series of special chronicles. The preceding pieces have shown us what's up in the highest levels of the Minmatar and Gallente empires, but this one breaks rank and instead focuses on the capsuleers. It explains how we went from the end of the novel to the onset of factional warfare, and how you guys got pulled into it.

I'm away on holiday and so am setting up the discussion thread in advance. When we post the story, I'll set up a link in this post.

Here's a little teaser:

"What do you think about going into lowsec, Captain?" the Admiral asked.

The Captain cleared his throat. Fleet Admiral Morda Engsten was an intimidating presence, and when she asked a question like that, she wanted a good answer.

"Well, ma'am ..." The birds were approaching, their halogen outlines flickering in the sunny air.

The Admiral sat down near the sand waterfall. "Speak, Captain," she said, not unkindly.

"I think it's an excellent idea whose implications are sure to be vast, ma'am."

"You think it's dumb."

"Like a rock, ma'am."
