You can safely uninstall the optional patch from the ESC menu and then reinstall it later (from the ESC menu again).

You should be able to reinstall it in Options -> General Settings

Uninstalling it doesn't seem to have helped, although I'm not having connectivity problems in general right now, I did earlier today despite the uninstall.
