Was great fun, and i thank all those who came around in our small consistent group and especially all the goons who sang and danced the nights away. Was great fun and i look forward to next year! AWESOME time had by all our friends. Definitely more fun if you have corpmates and eve friends there. Its great matching faces to names. LOTS of drinking and stories and yes incriminating videos too:) It was such fun all around and the flight out sunday night to boston was probably 60-75% Eve folks so it was a huge mass exodus to the airport that afternoon. Bus after bus kept coming to the airport.

We hope to return next year. Travelling with family is such fun, you now have stories to hold over their heads:) lol I met such wonderful folks! CK and Sanfrey- you two are a riot to be around.:)

Great tourney- though lots of bugs..but good times had by all.

Lot of people arriving Tuesday the 4th... and I know there is a thread here somewhere about a bar hopping tour that starts in the Nordica Hotel on the 4th as well... :D Im also at the Nordica and will probably be hanging out waiting for some of my corpmates to arrive the evening of the 4th. We are planning a day of sightseeing on Wednesday.... and I know there are some pre-fanfest parties going on as well. I myself am really hoping for a good night to try my luck seeing the Northern Lights (trust me they DON'T come to Southern California so this is my chance... lol)

I have an eve jacket... tho unfortunately it is quite often covered by a heavier weather proof jacket. But if you look for a female with flyaway brown curly hair wearing a blue and green scarf, that would be me.

I managed today to get on the same tour as a gentleman from Razor Alliance and his lady. *grin* It was a fun combo talking EVE over a black sand beach and a glacier etc. If you havent been to Iceland before... definitely do the Golden Circle tour... but be careful of the icey paths!! I believe there are now some very undignified pictures of me getting to know the ice a bit better. On the days that Ive taken tours (today was my 2nd tour and I did the Southern Shores Adventure tour) the weather has been pretty nice. Some rain, but really that made for some neat rainbow photos! The rest of the time I lucked out with mostly clear skys.

Im looking very much forward to meeting alot of new people this year, as well as seeing some familiar faces from last year!!

I arrived today.. The planning was perfect, i woke up at 07:00 in Krefeld, Germany and went on to the first stop: Corpmate Larania who agreed to take me to Frankfurt Airport in Wuppertal.
We then drove to Darmstadt to pickup Ukhar, he accompanied us to the Airport where we arrived exactly 2 hrs before departure for checkin.
On checkin i noticed someone talking about a doomsday, turned out to be 2 KIA guys who were flying on the same plane.
The flight itself was nothing unusual... few turbulences here and there, a nice view on scottland and then just clouds till Keflavik.
The landing was just as smooth as the start, the pilot was pretty good.. i guess he'd be a nice bs pilot.
At the baggage reclaim i noticed some ******* stole my rainbow colored belt i wrapped around the case... but as i couldnt do anything about it i went on, left the duty free and the shopping zone behind and used the ATM at the exit to get some ISK.
With my fresh new ISK i bought a bus ticket to Reykjavik and about 1hr later i arrived at the Nordica.
The area around Keflavik looks btw like a battle zone... rough and sharp stones everywhere, no trees, no bushes just pale gras growing on untouched areas. A desert of mud and dirt. A lonely house here and there looking like it was built of plywood, just waiting to collapase, an excavator standing in the middle of a big mud-pile and again - no ****ing tree to see in miles.
Rain pouring against the window, visibility limited by the dizzy weather. Just the road with cars as signs of civilization.
Then, out of nowhere... lights, more cars and... oh there! Traffic lights... Trees! They got trees and bushes! It's clear: this place is special...

After checkin at the Nordica i took a shower and then went on to the city.
It's pretty amazing, there are Bars, Clubs, Bistros everywhere! I could barely keep up with reading all those Names and Signs while just walking by.
While i was there i tested my memory and walked to the place i've seen the CCP HQ on that Fanfest map from last year and hell yeah, i found it!
Looks pretty nifty with all that glass although it looked like not many people were there which could be caused by the day beeing sunday and the time 20:30 :)
I went back, walking a different street just to read more but different names and signs.
Stopped at the Pizza Hut in the Nordica basement to pickup something to eat. Actually quite nice even though i didn't get what i wanted... i think i should train my english speaking a bit more.

I hope the weather gets better tomorrow so i can go out and take some pictures.

While i'm at it: this is a call to all Fanfest attendents already in Reykjavik:
We should try to organize some fun before Fanfest opens. I thought about day activities like visiting the blue lagoon (i think i read about this last year) or sightseeing and evening activities like billiard, drinking or threatening ccp staff ;)

Actually the price this year for a longer stay at a much better hotel (the Nordica, I stayed at Hotel Cabin last year) is less then last year. Granted this year, Im doing some sightseeing too.

So far, I can report that its a blast. Rained today but yesterday was beautiful and clear for my Golden Circle tour! Ive gotten a chance to hang with some of my friends that live here (and meet some new ones thru them) and Im looking forward to the arrival of many other friends and corpmates on Tuesday. Tomorrow... more sightseeing! Woot!

First year I wanted to make a serious effort to attend, and RL gets in the way in a way I'd rather had it not. Guessing my family is happy I'm not in Iceland the day I turn 30 tho, they'd probably kill me.

If Iceland still exist next year I'll cancel all RL, no matter what, and spill beer on everyone near me.

Actually the facts that I was working on at the time came from the BBC in this story which was posted before any clarification came from Icelandair. My question was to find out if anyone else had heard anything from their travel agents, not to cause panic.

Those that still need Kronur before they leave, if your in the UK your Local Marks & Spencer are doing a great rate for ISK, almost 190 per pound when I bought mine :)

Only takes 2 days to get it into the store to.

First Choice refuse all transactions in Kronur and refuse any buy back unlike M&S

Just a quick note as it might be easy to miss for those that have not been to the airport here before.

The exchange office is with the shops upstairs, before you go through the 2 doors which have no return.

Pretty much where everyone goes to the left through the glass doors, you'll want to stick right and go to all the stores, then you should be able to find the exchange office as well.

I never get cash up front when I am traveling. I always use my ATM card to get some cash at the airport of my destination.

If you want to be sure just bring some pounds or euro's or dollars. If cards are not working for whatever reason you will have some cash (altough you you probally will get a bad exchange rate).

For Iceland: there is an ATM in the airport. There is also a currency exchange office. If I remember correctly, both are before the baggage claim. There is also an ATM at the fron of the Hilton/Nordica hotel. Also, you can pay virtually anywere in Iceland with cards, even a cab/taxi will accept credit cards.

Okay, I have a small problem. Turns out all the UK banks, travel agents and the post office have stopped ordering ISK (the real ones) because of this minor sniffle the global economy seems to have caught. I've been trying all week to find somewhere to get my Kronur from, without success.

Kinda sucks. If anyone has any advice, it'll be gladly accepted.

I can confirm that there will be plenty of partying, it seems like us icelanders have decided to forget the crisis during weekends, as all bars and clubs have been packed the last few weeks :)

Although it would have been nice to buy the ticket for the fanfest on last years rate, for us "lucky" enough to live here

I will probably buy a ticket at the last possible moment, hoping the exchange rate will get better

For those flying out of Boston on the 4th arriving into iceland the 5th please email me at vtpugs@charter.net so we can hang out together. There will be 3 of us there from like 9:30 am on. Flying in early in case we lose the flight in so we have more flights to get to boston in time if needed.

Keep the three fanfest days free, you'll want to be there non stop to get the full winsauce feeling.
Other than that, most local excursion companies operate daytrips, leaving in the morning, returning about 6pm so you should be fine travelling to most places.

I highly reccomend seeing the southern coast, some of the scenery is breathtaking... also The Blue Lagoon is a good way to relax away a really violent hangover

Those planning to go to the Blue Lagoon may wish to bring lots of industrial strength shampoo.. just a tip

Keep the three fanfest days free, you'll want to be there non stop to get the full winsauce feeling.
Other than that, most local excursion companies operate daytrips, leaving in the morning, returning about 6pm so you should be fine travelling to most places.

I highly reccomend seeing the southern coast, some of the scenery is breathtaking... also The Blue Lagoon is a good way to relax away a really violent hangover
